Peter Werbel, Vice Chair
Peter Werbel moved to the Truckee-Tahoe area without a plan 54 years ago, and has served on the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District board of directors longer than he can remember. “I didn’t know what I was going to do, but I knew Truckee was where I was going to live,” Werbel said, recalling his 1971 move to Truckee straight out of college in Denver.
Starting with odd jobs around the area, Werbel quickly established roots in the outdoor recreation world as part owner of Alpenglow Sports, other properties and businesses, and starting the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski area in its current form, he said.
