We had a great time at the Love of Play Valentine's Event this past weekend. The event featured live music, circus acts, stand up comedy, a magician, raffle prizes, and more. It was the first event put on by the Truckee Recreation and Park Foundation, a non-profit created to fundraise for new parks and rec projects, and to advocate for the high quality of life that public recreation facilities and parks bring to a community.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Truckee Rec & Park Foundation Invites Community to Celebrate “For the Love of Play” Fundraiser
An evening of live entertainment supporting parks, recreation, and quality of life in Truckee

Truckee, CA - [January 19, 2026] - The Truckee Rec and Park Foundation, the nonprofit partner of the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District, invites the community to come together “For the Love of Play,” an evening of magic, comedy, circus acts, and music benefiting local parks and recreation.

“For the Love of Play” takes place on Saturday, February 14 (Valentine’s Day) at the Truckee Community Arts Center, with doors at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:00 p.m. Drinks will be available before and during the show, with dining options nearby. Hosted by foundation board member Mitch Clarin of the Truckee Follies, it’s sure to be a memorable night. Tickets are $50 at www.trpf.org; donations to the foundation are also accepted at https://www.trpf.org/donate.

Truckee is an active, engaged community with a strong vision for its parks and programs. While the Rec & Park District’s funding - primarily from property taxes and program fees - supports the maintenance of existing facilities, it does not cover new or expanded projects. The Foundation exists to help bridge that gap by raising funds for future-focused investments in recreation.

“Our purpose is to fundraise for new recreation facilities and parks and to advocate for the high quality of life that public recreation brings to our community,” said Steve Randall, Board Chair of the Truckee Rec and Park Foundation. “After decades of growing recreation opportunities in Truckee, it’s inspiring to see continued community support for what makes this place special.”

Proceeds from this event will directly support improvements to the Truckee River Regional Park Salty Gebhardt Amphitheater, with additional projects planned in the future. Priority initiatives include turf fields, a skatepark expansion, an indoor fieldhouse, ADA-accessible playgrounds, a dog park, a new ice-skating rink, upgrades to existing parks and facilities, and more.

These efforts are informed by a recently completed community master plan, developed through public surveys, stakeholder interviews, community workshops, site assessments, and feasibility analysis to ensure future investments reflect broad community input and long-term needs.

“This evening will celebrate what recreation means to Truckee, and begin to help make the next generation of parks and facilities possible,” Randall added.
